Information for the planning of the summer show 2009.

Dear bright*siders

BRIGHT*SIDE is the events day for our MA Visual Arts summer exhibition (July 14-19) at Camberwell College of Arts, Wilson Road.

Saturday July 18

Primarily for current students as well as incoming CCW Graduate School students in September 09, you are very welcome to come and celebrate with final year master’s students and also to meet up with your peers ahead of your own September start.

1000-1200 CCW students discuss work in the exhibition.
PhD student Paul Ryan – (researching ‘Peirce’s Semeiotic’ as applied in drawing) will lead this session focussing on some key works across the MA Visual Arts course.

1200-1430
Barbara Steveni – ‘I am an archive’.
Barbara will present her ideas prior to making a walk locally in which we will participate. This will re-introduce us to the particularities of the ‘locale’ as well as to a key artist working in the area and internationally. Steveni was a driving force behind the development of the now historic Artist Placement Trust and worked with John Latham. http://www.flattimeho.org.uk/

1500-1530 – Chrissie Tiller – ‘Grit in the Oyster’
First published in Arts Professional, Chrissie Tiller thinks we have bought into the industrialisation of creativity and calls for a change in the way we think about the position of the arts and culture in society and the economy.

1530-1600 Nicola Schauerman
Nicola will introduce her latest artwork ‘Mother’, a video installation created during her AA2A residency at CCA. This coincides with the group show EMBED in the Camberwell Foyer Space, the CCA gallery on Peckham Road.

Rep Meeting 25.03.09
Curation:
Each pathway to curate their own space.
Tutors will decide who is showing in communal spaces based on the information submitted in the exhibition plan form. Students selected to present work in these areas will be responsible for their own curation and should liaise with neighbouring pathways/artists where necessary.
Entrance Space:
We are looking for volunteers to curate and manage the entrance space during the show. Things like hospitality, information stands and perhaps artwork will need to be discussed and arranged. We will also need to organise greeters, mainly at the private view, to be present at the entrance.
Main Lecture Hall:
Last year the main hall at Wilson Rd was used as a cinema to show films. This was largely run by Digital Artists as there were about 6 or 7 who made films. However, this year there are not so many from Digital Arts and it may useful to find an alternative use for the space if there are not many people working with video in this context. We will either be looking for a volunteer to put together a DVD reel with titles for all the films, or someone to curate the space.

Labels/Signs/Maps:
The reps from printmaking are responsible for the signage, map design/distribution and labeling of the artwork. This will need to work in conjunction with what the UAL marketing team do.

UAL Marketing:
Simon (Digital Arts) and Miai (Printmaking) will liaise with the marketing team.

The marketing team will produce branding and promotional material for the BA and MA shows at Camberwell. This is likely to be promoted as a UAL event, probably without consideration what marketing and events we do ourselves.

Events:
We agreed that it would be a good idea to hold a day of events on the Saturday of the show. This could involve guest speakers, conversations/presentations from artists and tutors as well as performances. It would be great to market this more specifically. With the private view being the busiest time, it would good to draw people in on another day as well.

We are seeking volunteers to arrange this.

Catalog:
There is no budget from the college for a catalog. Any cross pathway catalog would have to be funded by students. Most pathways appear to be at an advanced stage of developing their own promotional material and it would be costly and late to start designing a printed catalog now.

PLEASE READ THESE AND BE AWARE THAT THE PLANNING AND RISK FORMS
MUST COME TO YOUR SUBJECT LEADER IN W/C MARCH 30 - COMPLETED AS
OUTLINED. ANY QUESTIONS TO YOUR TUTORS FIRST. PATHWAY SESSIONS ABOUT
THIS ARE HAPPENING NOW - THANKS
